Story

Meta Description: With Kerala experiencing the worst floods in the past 50 years, the situation looks dire and precarious for its people. This is an urgent appeal to provide funds for relief efforts.

Monsoon fury has been wreaking havoc in God’s Own Country. Kerala lies submerged in flood waters. With multiple dams being opened and electricity cut off, the people remain stranded. Kerala is facing the worst floods in the past 50 years, the normal lives of citizens have been tossed around with many in a precarious and desperate state. There are around 75,000 people stuck in relief camps. A damage of more than Rs 8,000 crores is estimated, with many crops and properties having been hit.

"Many of them are now perched on terraces for hours as the waters have reached up to the first storey; water level is still rising. The biggest problem is no power supply in many flooded areas, with mobile phones running low on batteries" said Abraham, a local legislator.

The situation has been getting from bad to worse in most places with lack of food and transport multiplying the adversity. This Southern State has been issued a red alert with the rains lashing down continuously, the public remain helpless.

Adding to their woes, some areas like Malappuram and Idukki have experienced harsh landslides. The death toll is reported to be 70, with many more facing a real threat of internal displacement, electrocution or worse, being isolated due to increasing water levels. Due to the fact that certain parts of the city have gone into isolation, authorities cannot even estimate the number of people that are stuck in these inaccessible areas. The situation in Pathanamthitta district, especially Ranni and its surroundings areas, has continued to remain bleak.

The surrounding tourist spots have been heavily affected with many visitors stranded in their buses and hotel rooms. The famous Sabrimala temple has issued a warning in the view of rapidly surging waters in their neighbouring river Pamba, the roads connecting Munnar have been cut off with the old Munnar town being completely flooded.

With forecasts looking worse, Kerala is need of urgent help. Basic necessities are still scarce. Raising funds will help us provide:

 Blankets

 Bedsheets

 Plastic mats

 Toothpaste / Brushes

 Soaps

 Sweaters

 Undergarments

 T.Shirts

 Grocery

 Utensils

Every rupee is valuable for us. With Rs 1,000, we can effectively look at providing food to 25-30 children and adults.  With Rs 500, we can provide biscuit and milk to 15-20 infants and kids. The needs are endless and our time is extremely constricted, help us help them as urgently as possible.
